Dr. Ahmed Hussein Kamel Nasser El Shafie
Professor

A. El-shafie received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. from the Department of Civil Engineering from Cairo University, Giza, Egypt in 1993 and 1998, respectively. In 2003, he received his PhD in water resources management and planning from Department of Civil Engineering, Cairo University under collaborative academic channel program with Civil Engineering Department, University of Calgary, Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Between 2004 and 2007, he was a postdoctoral fellow at Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at both of Royal Military College of Canada and Queen’s University, Kingston, ON, Canada. Between 2007-2015, he is a Associate Professor with the Smart Engineering System, Department of Civil & Structural Engineering, University Kebangsaan Malaysia, Malaysia. Presently he is a Professor with Department of Civil Engineering, University of Malaya. His research interest is related to artificial intelligence techniques with their applications to several engineering applications giving emphasis to hydrological process, environmental and water resources, dam and reservoir operation and multi-sensor system integration.

Ir. Dr. Faridah Binti Othman
Professor

Dr. Farahin Mohd Jais is a senior lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering. She was a previous recipient of the Programme Mahasiswa Cemerlang under the JPA scholarship during her Master's in Engineering of Science (Environmental) studies, and later pursued her Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering under the Skim Latihan Akademik Bumiputera (SLAB) fellowship. She specialized in water and wastewater treatment, with a focus on removing conventional and emerging water pollutants using carbon materials made from biomass waste. To date, she has synthesized water/wastewater treatment materials from a variety of biomass wastes, including spent coffee bean waste, pineapple leaf waste, palm shell waste, and sugarcane bagasse. Her experience in using adsorption technology for water/wastewater treatment has sparked her interest in diversifying into other technology including catalysis and membrane filtration.

Ir. Dr. Ubagaram Johnson Alengaram
Professor

Professor Ir. Dr. U. Johnson Alengaram has been in academic, consultancy, research, and administration for over twenty-five years and contributed to society in different capacities in India, Bahrain, and Malaysia. His current research involves the utilization of industrial by-products, low-carbon footprint materials, and waste materials in the development of one-part geopolymer, low-carbon cement, limestone calcinated clay cement (LC3) in mortar and concrete; other research aspects include lightweight aggregate, material characteristics, crack-healing mortar using microalgae, lightweight aggregate concrete, foamed concrete, geopolymer concrete and impact & blast-resistant concrete; his experimental works revolve around investigations on the microstructural behaviour, mechanical properties and durability characteristics, structural behaviour, functional behaviour etc. He has supervised many Master of Engineering Science (MEng Sci-Research Mode) and Doctoral candidates to the successful completion of their degrees.

Ir. Ts. Dr. Meldi Bin Suhatril
Associate Professor

Dr. Meldi bin Suhatril is a renowned academic and researcher with expertise in both Geotechnical Engineering and Structural Engineering, specializing in the interaction between soil and structures and has made significant contributions to the understanding of foundation systems, soil-structure interaction, and the design of stable, resilient structures in complex geotechnical conditions. His work integrates advanced geotechnical analysis with structural design principles to address challenges in foundation engineering, seismic response, and ground improvement techniques. Dr Meldi has been involved in major infrastructure projects, providing innovative solutions for deep foundations, retaining structures, and slope stability, ensuring that buildings and infrastructure can safely withstand both natural and man-made forces.

Ir. Dr. Norazura Muhamad Bunnori
Associate Professor

Associate Prof. Dr. Norazura binti Muhamad Bunnori is an expert in Structural Health Monitoring (SHM), Structural Integrity, Concrete Technology, and Materials, and has made significant contributions to the understanding and advancement of civil engineering. With a focus on Structural Health Monitoring, she develop advanced systems to assess the real-time performance and condition of infrastructure, ensuring safety and extending the life of critical structures. In the area of Structural Integrity, her work emphasizes evaluating and maintaining the resilience and robustness of buildings, bridges, and other infrastructures against natural and man-made forces. Associate Prof. Dr. Norazura’s also expertise in Concrete Technology and Materials includes researching high-performance concrete mixes, innovative construction materials, and sustainable technologies.

Ir. Dr. Onn Chiu Chuen
Associate Professor

Dr. Onn Chiu Chuen is a senior lecturer and researcher at the Department of Civil Engineering Faculty of Engineering, University of Malaya. He holds a BSc. in Engineering (Environment), MSc and PhD in Environmental Engineering from the Department of Civil Engineering, University Malaya. Dr Onn is a Graduate Engineer registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) and Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM), Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council United Kingdom. In line with his academic background, Onn’s research interest is quite wide-ranging under Environmental Engineering. However, his main interests are Life Cycle Assessment, eco profile and environmental (carbon, water, etc) footprints and impacts measurement, particularly within the context of products/building materials (waste incorporation), waste (WTE, biogas), energy (biofuels) and transportation (energy, modelling). Additionally, Onn is deeply involved in studying carbonation processes, which are crucial for carbon sequestration and reducing carbon footprints. His work in LCA extends to evaluating the entire lifecycle of products and processes, identifying opportunities to reduce environmental impacts and enhance sustainability.

Dr. Tan Chee Ghuan
Associate Professor

Dr. Tan Chee Ghuan specializes in Earthquake Engineering and Structural Engineering, specializing in the design and analysis of structures to withstand seismic forces. His research addresses the challenges of protecting buildings and infrastructure from earthquake damage by developing innovative methods for seismic resistance and resilience. Dr. Tan's work includes the evaluation of earthquake impacts, the design of earthquake-resistant structures, and the implementation of advanced seismic analysis techniques. In the field of Structural Engineering, Dr. Tan is known for his expertise in designing and analyzing various types of structures, from residential buildings to complex infrastructure projects. Ir. Ts. Dr. Yuen Choon Wah
Associate Professor

Ir. Ts. Dr. Yuen Choon Wah is a senior lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering. He is a registered Professional Engineer with the Board of Engineers Malaysia, and a registered Professional Technologist with the Malaysia Board of Technologists. Currently, he is the Pro Tem Head of Smart Mobility Centre of Excellence, and the Head of Centre for Transportation Research in the University of Malaya, a research centre that provides technical opinion and consultancy services in Transport Engineering beside actively involved in R&D projects. His areas of expertise are traffic engineering, traffic safety & sustainable transport study.

Dr. Zainah Binti Ibrahim
Associate Professor

Dr. Zainah Ibrahim is currently an Associate Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering, Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She received her Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering from Middlesex University, UK; Master Degree in Structural Engineering from Liverpool University, UK, and obtained her Ph.D. in the field of Structural Engineering from Sheffield University, UK. She has over 20 years of teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Her research interests include structural dynamics, structural health monitoring, nonlinear dynamic system identification, structural vibration and control, repair and strengthening of existing concrete structures, and concrete materials.

Dr. Mohd Hafizan Bin Mohd Isa

Dr. Mohd Hafizan's research interests include the utilization of waste materials in construction, soil stabilization, and sustainable construction practices. He explores innovative ways to incorporate waste materials, such as tile waste, into construction processes to enhance material properties and promote sustainability. Ir. Dr. Mohd Rasdan Bin Ibrahim

Dr. Muhammad Shazril Idris Bin Ibrahim

Dr Muhammad Shazril Idris bin Ibrahim is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Malaya. He is a registered Graduate Engineer with the Board of Engineers Malaysia and Engineers Australia, and a registered Graduate Technologist with MBOT. He is a past awardee of the AUN-SEED Net JICA Scholarship Program where he received his M.Eng degree at Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia, an alumnus of the University of Queensland (UQ), Australia for his Doctoral Degree in Coastal Engineering and a past recipient of the UQ Candidature Development Award where he had an industrial engagement with the Department of Irrigation and Drainage, Malaysia for several national-interest projects such as Kuala Pahang River Mouth Project, Centralised GIS Database and Integrated Shoreline Management Plan (ISMP). His recent research interests focus on the processes of wave and swash overtopping, which include the application of positive volume flux and deficit in the freeboard scaling through a series of physical and numerical modelling works, coastal protection works, navigation analysis via GIS application, and AI application in coastal processes.

Ts. Dr. Saznizam Sazmee Sinoh
Senior Lecturer

Dr. Saznizam obtained his BEng in Civil Engineering at Universiti Malaya in which he specialized in finite element analysis. He has provided renewable energy consultation as part of community engagement to obtain his MSc in Environmental Management at the University of Hertfordshire, UK. During his PhD in at the Universiti Malaya, he further specialized in building information modelling (BIM) and life cycle assessment (LCA). He research interests include industry-wide implementation of BIM and LCA of sustainable construction materials.

Dr. Suhana Binti Koting

Dr. Suhana Koting received the Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) in Civil Engineering (2005) from University of Malaya, Malaysia. In 2009, she finished her Master of Engineering Science in Civil Engineering-Pavement Materials Design at University of Malaya. She was awarded Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) from University of Malaya in 2017. Currently, she is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Malaya. Dr. Yap Soon Poh

Dr. Yap Soon Poh is an expert in Structural Engineering, particularly in Concrete Materials where his focused is on the development and optimization of concrete mixtures to improve their strength, durability, and performance. His research involves exploring new formulations and additives to enhance the properties of concrete, ensuring that it meets the demanding requirements of modern constructions.
